#Cancer Foundation of India (CFI) is an NGO, with a difference, on a mission to reduce human suffering due to cancer. Cancer, if detected early is not fatal hence CFI focuses on prevention, early diagnosis and encourages patients for early treatment.
#Since 2002 some of the most committed professionals of Kolkata under the leadership of Prof. Maqsood Siddiqi, scientific visionary and Founder Chairman of CFI,focuses services on the major cancer-breast, uterine cervix and tobacco-induced ones which account for 70% of cancers in India.
#CFI has 4 focus areas on advocacy at community and policy levels, population-based preventive research, training professionals along with providing screening services and supportive care to cancer patients.
#Community service of CFI includes the CFI Cancer Screening & Prevention Centre, a specialized FREE screening clinic screening over 9500 women, customized training for 178 medical professionals in collaboration with state governments, vaccination of 1,000 young girls against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), conducted over 350 cancer awareness programmes across West Bengal.
#In recognition of the year of service in Bengal CFI is the only nominated civil society member in the State-level Committee for Tobacco Control in West Bengal, conferred UICC, Geneva membership. Fellowships have been received from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, American Cancer Society, World Health Organisation (IARC), Cancer Council Queensland (Australia) etc.
