Kolkata Empowerment Foundation

The Kolkata Empowerment Foundation (KEF) is a registered society formed by a group of distinguished Physicians, Businessmen, Educationists and Filmmakers of Kolkata. KEFs mission is empowerment, healthcare, education and life skill training of our rural population living in extreme poverty.

Strategic Objectives of the society is to Identify, energize and motivate good   rural NGOs engaged for progress of the disadvantaged groups and develop linkages and partnership projects with these NGOs for empowerment of the weak and vulnerable. Priority was given on projects for Mother, Child and old age people and also on creating sustainable interventions which could be replicable and owned by the people at the end of its tenure. Organizing donor groups and mobilizing commitments from the corporate world and common citizens to generate active participation amongst all sections of the community;- specially educated elite was another important priority.

KEF is aware about the waste of duplication of efforts and resources. As such the Kolkata Empowerment Foundation started to identify useful supplementary and complementary interventions by mobilizing its own adopted communities. Our projects are located not near Kolkata but in the far areas of West Bengal for reaching more marginal groups. Thereafter we had to perform the refining role by making all interventions comprehensive, interdependent, logical and sustainable and continuously tried for suiting initiatives to the local conditions, environment, and needs. Thus we have assumed a completely different role where no duplication was deliberately planned for the sake of an alternative to the state efforts, but everything was supplementary in nature. In addition we had developed a multi sectoral approach as poverty elimination requires combined actions on Education, Health, Agriculture, Environment, Income generation etc.
