Nirdhan Development And Microfinance

Nirdhan focuses on livelihood development: giving very poor families the skills and tool kits in agricultural enterprises to lift themselves out of poverty. Nirdhan was founded i;n 2011 to achieve this and currently has a board of 5 non-executive directors, chaired by Vasant Subramanyan. To deliver the operations, Nirdhan has built a team of 4 management persons and a field team of 38 staff. Nirdhan's first programm was backyard poultry farming, referred to as Poultry Development Services, PDS. Since operations started in 2011, we have provided training and 25, 966 toolkits to 7,763 families, indirectly impacting the lives of over 46, 000 people as we train whole families. In 2014 we started Agri- Management Services, AMS, in response from our PDS home farmers. We have helped over 668 families, formed Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs) and there are now 40 of which 29 groups to date have opened bank accounts and gained practice to save regularly which they never did before. Goateries was launched in 2015 in response to requests from our PDS home-farmers who do not have access to land. We have distributed 44 goats to 20 families and named it as "goat nanny" model. The produce of kids will be shared equally between the farmers and Nirdhan to help other poor families get training on goat rearing, vaccinations and medications during 3 cycles of reproduction.
