Swayam

SWAYAM a feminist rights organization meaning ‘oneself’ was founded in the year 1995 with the dream that it can bring about a lasting change in the social condition that is so unequal and discriminating for women. SWAYAM seeks to specifically address the discrimination and violence that women face every day of their lives, regardless of their class, caste, religious or educational background.

Over the last 21 years, Swayam has provided direct support to women survivors of violence, their children and their families through direct one to one support and a range of group activities. We provide free legal advice, offer follow up with police, career counselling, vocational training, counselling, workshops on different themes as well as many group activities like film show, creative writing, etc.

On the other hand we works towards influencing public opinion and action through public awareness programmes, education, training, networking with other groups to advocate for change on a policy level and creating an environment where violence against women is unacceptable.

Swayam also has services in Diamond Harbour and Metiabruz where we work closely with men, women, youth and community groups to end inequality and violence against women. In the communities we also work with men and boys to building leadership and creating a cadre of men and boys, who will ultimately work as agents of change, spread awareness and address/prevent discrimination to create a gender just society.
