A MATTER OF NATIONAL CONCERN
ACCORDING TO THE INDIAN CANCER REGISTRY,
MAXIMUM NUMBERS OF SPECIFIC CANCERS COME FROM EASTERN INDIA
Responding to this urgent need, the Tata Group known for its philanthropy set up the Tata Medical Center Kolkata, a Rs 350 crore world class
not-for-profit cancer specialty hospital, in 2011.
The hospital stands as a beacon of hope for cancer patients especially in Eastern India.
Close to half the beds in the hospital are reserved for the treatment of underprivileged cancer patients.
The hospital has already treated more than 65,000 patients and performed over 14,000 surgeries till date.
The hospital currently houses 167 beds but this is not enough to accommodate the large number of poor patients that require attention.
The average waiting period for surgery is 5 weeks and
Radiotherapy is 6 weeks. This is impacting patient treatment.
To meet this ever growing number of patients the hospital is expanding to add another 250 beds.
The Phase 2 expansion is hence a very important landmark in the establishment of critical oncology care in Eastern India.
We hope to raise funds through the TSK25, 2016 for the Phase 2 Expansion of the hospital and add 250 beds for the underprivileged patients and bring cheer back into their lives.
