Tilottama Shashmal is a champion advocate of organic farming and she preaches what she practices. She turned her land organic when she realized she was spending more on chemical fertilizers than her income from the crops. At home, she makes organic manure, using the vermicompost pits provided by United Way Kolkata. She has 1 acre of land and all of it is organic. She is an inspiration for other farmers in and around her village.
