On 16th May, 2011, Tata Medical Center a world class cancer speciality hospital was set up in Kolkata to address the matter of National concern, that maximum numbers of specific cancers come from Eastern and North Eastern India (Source: Indian Cancer Registry).
Close to half the beds at the hospital are reserved for the treatment of underprivileged patients.
Till date more than 70,000 patients have been treated and over 15,000 surgeries have been performed.
As Dr Chandy, Medical Director, Tata Medical Center has aptly said: “We have exceeded expectations in cancer treatment in India, especially for patients from the east and north east regions, and the proof of this is that we see about 800 -900 patients every day”. (Tata Review. October-December 2016; page 36)
With thousands pouring in, it was imperative to raise funds towards the expansion of the hospital.
The expansion will add a new building (basement + ground + 5 floors) which is aesthetically connected to the existing building with an addition of 250 more beds to the existing 183 beds.
Through the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, 2016 (TSK25) platform we had appealed for raising funds towards the much-needed expansion. Many Tata Group companies and other corporate like Infinity Park, Emami, Eveready to name a few assisted us in raising Rs.15.8 lakhs.
